Enabling System Restore in Windows 11: A Step-by-Step Guide

System Restore is a crucial feature in Windows 11 that allows you to revert your system to a previous state, which can be particularly helpful if you encounter system issues after making changes. However, it’s important to note that System Restore is not enabled by default in Windows 11, so you’ll need to manually activate it to take advantage of this functionality. Here’s how to enable System Restore in Windows 11:

Step 1: Access System Properties

  • Open the Start menu.
  • Search for “Create a restore point” and click the top result to open the System Properties page.

Step 2: Configure System Protection

  • In the System Properties window, under the “Protection Settings” section, select the main “System” drive.
  • Click the “Configure” button.

Step 3: Turn on System Protection

  • In the configuration window, select the “Turn on system protection” option.
  • Use the Max Usage slider to select how much space Windows 11 should reserve to store restore points. It’s recommended to allocate enough space to store several restore points but be mindful of your overall disk space availability.

Step 4: Apply and Confirm

  • Click the “Apply” button to save your changes.
  • Click “OK” to close the configuration window.

Once you complete these steps, Windows 11 will automatically create a restore point when applying system updates or when specific system changes are made. If you have additional drives that you want to protect, you should enable the feature manually for each drive.

Remember, System Restore is a system recovery feature and not a backup solution. It’s designed to undo system changes without affecting your personal files, but it won’t replace regular backups for data protection.
